Be ATM/Debit Card smart
Make sure you are vigilant when using ATM machines and your debit cards, etc. Look out for skimming devices that may be planted inside the ATM machine by fraudsters to make it retain your card.
If you do notice something suspicious in your bank account, do not hesitate to report it to Sterling Bank immediately.
To help you avoid becoming a victim of debit card fraud, Sterling Bank Plc offers the following security tips:
- Make sure you check your account statements regularly and ascertain that all listed transactions are genuine.
- Contact us immediately if your card is lost, stolen or you suspect it has been compromised.
- Memorize your PIN number. Do not use your birth date, address and phone number. Never store your PIN with your card, and do not make it available to others.
- Keep your ATM receipts. You'll need them to check your account statement. If they have your account number on them, tear up or shred receipts before throwing them away.
- Do not use an ATM if it looks suspicious, it could have a skimming device
- Be wary of those trying to help you, especially when an ATM "eats" your card, they may be trying to steal your card number and PIN.
- Do not give your PIN number to anyone over the phone, often thieves steal the cards and then call the victim for their PIN, sometimes claiming to be the issuing bank.
- Do not log on to a website asking you to update your card details for any form of ATM maintenance or upgrade
- Any card related issue should be brought to Sterling Bank to rectify. Not to any third party.
